Here’s the email content I received earlier today about the efforts underway to bring Big Red home. I’d encourage everyone to make a donation, even if it’s only a few bucks, so we can all be part of this historical Citadel event.
The Citadel Alumni Association is issuing a personal appeal to its members to please consider an immediate donation of $25.00, $50.00 or what ever amount you would like to contribute for the recovery and display of the original “Big Red” that has been discovered In the Iowa Flag Collection. This is the flag that flew over Morris Island in 1861. The official historical report on the flag is available at the CAA website.
The Citadel Board of Visitors has granted the CAA all intellectual rights to the flag and has designated it as the official flag of the Corps of Cadets. The goal is to have it on display in the CAA for Corps Day 2010.
The state of Iowa has agreed to its return and it is now time to bring this historical icon home. In order to do this, we have established a budget of $50,000 that must be raised immediately.
I am asking for your help. You can make a donation online at the TCF website or mail a check to the CAA. But please, do it now.
Sincerely,
Edward B. Carter, ‘66
Colonel, USAF Ret.
