Classmates,
I overjoyed to announce the creation of the Class of 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award. This award is the brainchild of Bobby Cox and he has lead the way in making this award happen. Please read all the information below and consider nominating one of our classmates for this honor.
Background:
The Class of 2002 graduated 298 cadets on 11 May 2002 and will celebrate it’s 20-year reunion in Fall 2022 in Charleston, South Carolina. During the last twenty years, many of our graduates have participated in various professions, experiences, and accomplishments. It has been an especially unique time due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks that took numerous classmates into harms way to fight on distant battlegrounds. Many classmates have risen to become leaders in their businesses, communities, places of worship and academia. In order to recognize the spirit of what the Class of 2002 has accomplished and will continue to contribute on the local, state, national and global stage, we have created the Class of 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award.
The award will be presented to just one member of the Class of 2002 every five years, at Homecoming. The award is a symbol of all our accomplishments and seeks to motivate every member to continue to push to new heights and accomplishments. Every five years, our class gathers to reflect on the last five years and to encourage each other to continue the path of service and achievement that we learned at The Citadel. The award shows that the class expects great things from every member, whether that’s in the military, as a leader in business, or at your place of worship, civic organization, or simply in your everyday life.
Nomination and Award Process:
The nomination process begins today and continues until 25 October 2022. Please click here for a link to the nomination form. You are encouraged to nominate any classmate that you believe best exemplifies the values of The Citadel and especially the Class of 2002. You may nominate a classmate for any single action or based on their accomplishments since graduation. We encourage you to think of classmates that have served honorably in business, places of worship, the military, or civic organizations, but do not feel limited to these arenas. All nominations should reflect the values of The Citadel and the Class of 2002.
All nominations will be published on this website as they are received and verified. You are not able to nominate yourself, nor are you able to nominate anyone anonymously.
Ballots will be distributed at the tailgate and the winner announced before the end of the game.
Award Description:
The award will be a bronze Bulldog, similar to statue found on campus in front of McAlister Field House. A plaque will be installed on the award and engraved with the name and year of each winner.
